Standing In Front Of You

Lately, I have been revisiting music that I listened to in my teenage years and early twenties. For me, music is so powerful. And one of my favorite things about a song is the lyrics, and how the meaning of lyrics change for me over time.

Kelly Clarkson is an artist I have loved since I was 14 and she was on American Idol. She's one of the artists I have been listening to a lot lately, all the way through her entire catalog. I was recently listening to "Standing In Front Of You" from her Stronger album and as I listened, I thought of God talking to me.

Here are some of the lyrics

You can close your eyes, don't worry/I'll still be here in the mornin'

And they won't break us/And they can't get through/Cause I'm gonna be here/Standing in front of you

I'm sure Kelly was singing in reference to a potential mate, hoping they would open their eyes and see that what they wanted was in front of them. But in this moment in time, I took it as God saying this

"I'm here. I'll still be here, even through the times you don't see me. When challenges arise and try to break you down, I am walking alongside you. I am standing in front of you, leading the way".

I have had many times in my life where I wasn't sure that God was going to want to be part of my life, because I had not spoken to Him in so long or lived my life in a way that was worthy of His love (in my own mind). I take great comfort in knowing that no matter what, He is here, and He is listening. I'll take that message any way that I can get it, even if that is through a Kelly Clarkson song.

In my free time I like to make playlists, so I have started a playlist of songs that give me this same feeling. They aren't always the most obvious ones. And as a bonus, I had Facebook pals add to it!
